Eamonn Holmes given new job on GB News as channel launches radio station in 2022

Eamonn Holmes is joining GB News as the channel is set to launch a radio station in 2022.

The 62-year-old Northern Irish presenter will become a breakfast host for the station in the New Year, replacing broadcaster Simon McCoy.

GB News claims it will turn 'traditional media on its head' as it's the first broadcaster to simultaneously transmit both live radio and television across the country.

Eamonn will be joined by a number of new presenters during his new stint on the radio in January.

Isabel Webster will be hosting the television programme when it airs.

Chief executive officer Angelos Frangopoulos said about the huge change: "With radio, we're turning traditional media on its head because everyone will be able to continue with the same channel whether they're at home, travelling, or at work.

"We set out to innovate and shake up news media and that's what we're doing, whether it's on mass reach television and DAB radio, online, apps, live on YouTube, or digital platforms, GB News will be wherever audiences want us to be."

In recent weeks, Simon McCoy responded to the announcement that he has been replaced by Eamonn on GB News.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday evening, Simon tweeted: "A spokesman for GB News told Express.co.uk: '[Simon] is being replaced by Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster and we’re thrilled about this'.

He then added at the end of the tweet: "That’s nice."

Simon's fans were quick to respond to the post, with one person writing: "To repeat myself; Eamonn Holmes is okay but he’s no Simon McCoy."

Another person replied: "I hope your not leaving because of Eamonn. You will be missed (sic)."

The Mirror understands Eamonn has been in touch with Simon personally since his new role was announced.

Eamonn will host a new programme in the New Year and is said to be 'excited' about his new role and being able to 'give a voice to the unheard'.

Eamonn - who has appeared on This Morning for 15-years - said: "I've spent my career on broadcasting firsts and start-ups, and GB News is one of the most exciting yet.

"It's just the kind of shake-up the industry needs."

He added: "I've admired GB News from the beginning for its clever mix of punchy debate but delivered with warmth and even some fun.

"To me the greatest honour in journalism is to give a voice and respect to the unheard, and that's exactly what GB News is all about."
