Eamonn Holmes fears wife Ruth will end up as his carer after 'hellish ten months'

Veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes has admitted he's worried his wife Ruth Langsford will become his carer after suffering from "chronic pain" last year.

The GB News host, 62, was diagnosed with a dislocated pelvis and three slipped discs, which left him dependent on crutches.

With a slew of treatments, including steroid injections and physiotherapy, the former This Morning host is now back on his feet - but he's concerned about the future.

He said: "I've had a hellish ten months with these dislocated discs on my sciatic nerves.

"So I'm certainly not walking a lot this year, but I think just as you get older your appetite gets less."

The father of three admitted that he did have to ask his wife Ruth, 61, for help, before joking that she didn't have "the most caring nature".

Speaking to The Times Eamonn said he would occasionally ask the Loose Women host to put on his socks and help him with other things.

However according to the Northern Irish man, Ruth said: 'I'll do it this once but don't rely on this. I'm not going to be doing this again. I'm not your carer.'"

Eamonn quipped that he better have 'enough money in the bank for a care nurse when he's older'.

Another ailment the broadcaster has opened up about is insomnia, which he says he suffers with now that he's back on early mornings at GB News.

Eamonn quit This Morning in November to join the rival channel on which he fronts a breakfast show with his former Sky colleague Isabel Webster.

Writing in his column for Best magazine, he said: "The early starts do take their toll, but knowing that you're meeting up with one of your best friends, the work becomes much more fun and time tends to fly.

"The evenings can be a bit more difficult. My big dread about what's ahead is insomnia and what feels like a 'sleep hangover' the next day."

Eamonn began presenting This Morning in 2006, alongside Ruth, who had already been part of the ITV show’s on-air team since 1999.

Following his departure it has been claimed the star's former colleague Phillip Schofield is yet to reach out amid rumours of a rift between the pair.

Despite sharing a studio for a number of years, the pair 'didn't see eye to eye' on This Morning, according to reports.

The Mirror has contacted a representative for Phillip.

A rep for Eamonn said they didn't wish to comment on the matter.
