Eamonn Holmes explains his four month-long break from TV following 'soul-destroying' injury

Eamonn Holmes has opened up on on his health following a four month break from TV presenting. The GB News host took to social media to tell his followers of his return - much to the delight of many. The 63-year-old was off sick after a nasty fall that left him with a broken shoulder.

His nasty injury came just weeks after having surgery on his back in September 2022, which had a "20 per cent risk of going wrong". The former This Morning presenter then had to have a second operation on his shoulder during his recovery for his fall.

Tragedy struck again for Eamonn shortly after in November last year as he announced his mother had sadly passed away. He then went on to reveal that he was unable to attend the funeral in Northern Ireland due to his mobility issues and had to watch it via a live stream from his home in Surrey, as reported by the MEN.

However, on Sunday (Jan 8), the news anchor declared he would be back on TV screens once again today. In a video posted on his Instagram account, he told fans: "Hello there, everybody. Just to say, after nearly four months away off the telly, I'm back tomorrow. Sounds like a threat, doesn't it?

"You may or may not be aware of what happened to me. I got some back surgery, I’ve had disc problems for a year and a half or so, and then got some back surgery, which affected one of my legs, which led to me falling downstairs, led to me breaking my shoulder. So I had a leg that didn't work and a shoulder that didn't work, and lots of other things in between."

He added: "But here I am. I feel that there are only so many boxsets that I can watch or recommend to you, and I'm not better, but I'm better than I was. And I've decided to make an attempt to go back to work on GB News from tomorrow on the basis that work, hopefully will heal me.

"Any of you who are long-term sick or in any way convalescing, particularly at home, will know that there's a lot of frustration involved in it. And for me, I think I'm going to give it a go, be back to work, and hopefully get better as a result of doing day-to-day things. Now, on a day-to-day basis, all I need is you to be there."

Back in December, Eamonn also opened up to his followers on social media about his frustrations at having to 'rely on others' due to his mobility issues. "Worked hard at my physio this morning," he wrote on Twitter.

"Very tiring but I've now sat on my backside for five hours and feel bad about doing nothing.... lack of mobility and depending on others stops me doing really simple things. For peace of mind I feel another round of foot exercises coming on."

Hundreds quickly responded to his post, as one fan under the username @Wogsalg commented: "I feel your pain I had six months of physio two hours a night five a week. I hated relying on folk... But the one thing was NO one will ever understand how awful Physio is and how exhausting." To which Eamonn replied: "Relying is soul destroying."

Earlier in 2022, the broadcaster also suffered with shingles, calling the condition "painful" and "exhausting." According to the NHS, shingles is an infection that generally causes a painful rash to appear. Symptoms include a "tingling or pain" on the skin, as well as a headache and generally feeling unwell.

During his first appearance back after four months earlier today (Jan 9) on GB News, Eamonn's co-host Isabel Webster gave him a warm welcome as he returned to his hosting duties. She then read comments from viewers sharing their delight at seeing him back.

However, one viewer asked Eamonn 'what is wrong with him', to which he replied while laughing: "I can't walk." He added that 'everything from the waist up works, but it's his legs that don't'.

He told viewers: "It's set me back and made me fall down the stairs. I fell down 18 stairs." Isabel replied: "You shouldn't have been climbing the stairs."

Eamonn hit back: "What am I supposed to do? How do I get to bed? I fell down the spiral staircase and smashed my left shoulder... The first thing you did was lean on my shoulder." As Isabel giggled she said: "Sorry, I did. I won't be doing that again or he'll be off for another four months. Sorry about that."
