Eamonn Holmes battles chronic pain as he returns to This Morning and admits 'things have got worse'

Eamonn Holmes battled chronic pain as he returned to This Morning on Monday, telling viewers his condition had left him unable to sleep.

Fans first learned of Eamonn's plight last week when he tweeted about being in hospital after having pain "like I've never experienced in my life."

Giving an update on his condition a few days later, Eamonn told his many social media followers: "My pain hasn't gone away but understandably and unluckily for me the professionals who analyse and diagnose are on an Easter break.

"So to everyone, Twitter community, Family and friends who are asking, 'What's wrong?', unfortunately I won't know until the middle of next week."

Cat Deeley is standing for Lorraine Kelly on Lorraine this week and, just as Lorraine does at the end of every show, the former SMTV host crossed to the This Morning studio to find out what was coming up on the show.

She asked Eamonn and Ruth, who recently starred as her parents in a special Saturday Night Takeaway edition of CHUMS how they were, before asking Eamonn how his back was, to which he told her: "not good. It's got worse."

At the start of This Morning, Eamonn then shared more of what he's going through with viewers, with the show urging others in the same position to get in touch.

He revealed: "I've got an MRI scan but the trouble is everything closes down for Easter, I haven't got it analysed yet.

"But what I do know is that I can't sleep at night. The pain is absolutely worse at night. So many of you have this chronic pain from all sorts of different sources.

"So today I thought, let's talk about this; let's get you talking about this; let's talk to the doctors.

"Don't think you're alone on this one. I've had this a month, I hope I'm not going to have it for much longer.

"But people have lived with chronic pain for their whole lives."
