Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford were not axed from This Morning over 'bauble row'

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford were not axed from This Morning over a row over a Christmas bauble.

The telly regulars have lost their regular slots on the ITV show and subsequent reports suggested a dispute over a festive gift to Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was at the heart of the decision.

However, Mirror Online can reveal there was no "row" over the bauble so it would have had no impact on line-up decisions.

Eamonn, 60, was reported to have clashed with This Morning boss Martin Frizell in the run up to last year's General Election in a dispute over bauble gifting.

Sturgeon was said to have planned to give Eamonn and Ruth a special tree decoration and Frizell was said to be keen to give a bespoke This Morning bauble in return.

Eammon reportedly wasn't happy with the idea amid fears it could break impartiality rules ahead of the election and it reportedly led to a fiery showdown.

But a source has told Mirror Online there was no row and between Eammon and Frizell and there was also no issue of the bauble breaking impartiality rules.

The inside told us: "There was no row, it was a run of the mill discussion...

"The bauble was not actually a gift from Nicola Sturgeon, it was given on behalf of the Scottish Parliament.

"The bauble given in return was a gift to the Scottish Parliament and not to Nicola Sturgeon herself or to the SNP party so there was no possibility of breaching impartiality rules."

ITV have yet to comment on bauble-gate or on Eamonn and Ruth's future at the show after the Mirror revealed they are to be axed from their regular Friday morning slot.

A spokesperson for the show told us: "We have a stellar presenting line-up on This Morning in Holly and Phillip and Eamonn and Ruth.

"Any additions to this line-up will be announced in due course."

We previously revealed the pair - who are firm fan favourites - are to be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary on Fridays.

However, the telly veterans will still be used for holiday cover, including the six-week stint over the summer when Holly and Phil take their break.

A source told us: "Eamonn is pretty furious and everyone feels for him and Ruth, they are well liked on the team, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made."
