Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford tell viewers about their romantic first date

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Lansford have told viewers about their romantic first date - and what happened after.

The married presenters appeared on This Morning on Thursday and watched the cast of Riverdance perform outside the Television Centre studios.

Following the thrilling performance, the Belfast man and wife Ruth discussed how river dancing was actually integral to their early relationship.

"All my relatives from Ireland there," joked Eamonn.

He then went on to praise the cast, saying: "Not only does it make me proud to be Irish but it reminds me of my first date with Ruth."

"Riverdance, yeah," noted Ruth, as Eamonn confirmed that he took her to see the show.

"It was a good date," added Ruth, which Eamonn confirmed, before she added with a smile: "It was a good date though we had a little tiff afterwards. Who knew?!"

Ruth then questioned whether Eamonn had ever learned Irish dancing, but he responded: "Unfortunately I didn't because in my day we thought 'What would you want to do that for?' then Riverdance came along and it became the sexy thing to do."

Eamonn and Ruth first started dating in 1994 after he separated from his first wife, Gabrielle Holmes, with whom he shares children Declan, Rebecca and Niall.

The couple went on to welcome son Jack in 2002, with Eamonn and Gabrielle divorcing in 2005 and Eamonn and Ruth going on to marry in 2010.

Earlier this week, Eamonn revealed on the show that his son Declan had welcomed a baby with wife Jenny.

At the start of the show, Eamonn said that "things had changed" since Monday's instalment.

A clapping Ruth added: "That you're a granddad!"

Eamonn joked: "It wasn't just me - it was my son Declan and his wife Jenny, they are the happy couple and Jenny gave birth to Amelia."

'Lovely name," Ruth gushed about her step-granddaughter.
