Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford still present in This Morning studio after axe

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford's presence is still looming in the This Morning studio after they were axed from the show.

The husband-and-wife duo are being replaced on the ITV show by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, who will take over hosting duties on Fridays.

Eamonn and Ruth, both 60, are said to be "furious and upset" about the axe, but it seems they haven't been completely erased from the show just yet.

One eagle-eyed viewer noticed today that their mugs are still on display on a book shelf in the studio.

As the camera panned over to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, the mugs with the letters E and R printed onto them could be seen sitting on the shelf.

The fan who spotted it shared a clip on Twitter, asking: "Who @thismorning decided not to change eamonn and Ruth’s mugs?"

The night before Mirror Online broke the news that he and Ruth had been axed from This Morning, Eamonn said on Facebook Live chat with Belfast Live that it was "stressful" knowing social media trolls were plotting to get him sacked.

He said: "People say it’s water off a duck’s back but people wake up and they know they can get you sacked... that’s the thing about live TV. It can be very stressful."

Eamonn had said he was worried he was too "pale, stale and male" for the show which had faced criticism for its lack of diversity among hosts.

Under the shake up, Eamonn and Ruth won't host the show on Fridays any more, but they will still host it for six weeks in the summer while Phil and Holly take their break.

An insider said: "ITV has been open about wanting to diversify and make the show 'less white' but they haven’t tried to find anything else for them.

"Ruth will remain on Loose Women and they will do school holidays. But Eamonn hasn’t been offered a role anywhere else on the channel, which is a real shame for him."
