Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford react to This Morning replacement announcement

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford have released messages after it was announced they would be replaced on This Morning.

The husband and wife presenting duo usually present the ITV daytime show on a Friday before moving to full time in the holiday's such as Easter and the summer.

However, there has been a shake-up to the line-up from January 8, 2021.

Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary will take Eamonn and Ruth's place on a Friday while Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield will carry on as normal from Monday to Thursday.

The move had been rumoured for weeks but was finally confirmed by This Morning on Monday (November 30).

Ruth and Eamonn, both 60, later shared messages to their individual Twitter accounts.

They both wrote: "It's a changing of the guard on Fridays from January.

"We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you've made us over the years. Have a Ball you two!

"It's not Goodbye from us, it's simply Au Revoir until the next half term."

Alison, who has worked on the show for many years, also spoke of her excitement. She tweeted: "The news is officially out ! So honoured to be joining Holly and Phil, Eamonn and Ruth on the sofa with Dermot.

"I hope I can make you all proud ! I'm thrilled to have been given this incredible opportunity. Bring on 2021 !!"

Many fans of the ITV show have been left gutted by the news.

"NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! What will i do with you & Eamonn’s bickering?! ITV were wrong to do this. I love Alison but it won’t be the same. I only watched it on Fridays!" wrote one.

Another said: "Devastated we wont be seeing you and 007 himself @EamonnHolmes on a Friday. It won't be the same without you both - you are both legends as far as I am concerned."

"Well you will be missed. I’m not gonna watch it when you leave. Don’t think I will be the only one either," a third added.
