Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford 'deceived' by Phillip Schofield over This Morning affair

Eamonn Holmes has told fans that he and wife Ruth Langsford were 'deceived' by Phillip Schofield, after their former co-star admitted having an affair with a much younger This Morning colleague.

Having been at the centre of much speculation over the last few weeks, heightened by his departure from This Morning after 21 years last weekend, Phillip released a statement on Friday night in which he confessed to being in a relationship with a runner on the ITV daytime show.

He described the affair as 'unwise but not illegal,' explaining: "I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.

"Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over. "

Phillip, who has now been sacked by his agents, apologised for lying to them, his ITV colleagues and his family, with him now leaving ITV completely.

In the aftermath of Phillip's statement being made public, Eamonn, who left This Morning at the end of 2021, took to Twitter to post: "Schofield has finally been caught out ... But he's not the only guilty party. 4 high members of Itv management knew what sort of man he was ...and NEVER once took action to prevent him controlling or taking advantage of his position over young people."

ITV have since released their own statements, declaring they launched an investigation into an apparent affair between Phillip and the This Morning colleague in question, back in 2020, but both men denied any relationship.

Having a go at Eamonn, one Twitter user shared a video of him and Ruth being publicly supportive of Phillip live on air, when he came out three years ago and wrote: "As for Eamonn Holmes being outraged, he's a hypocrite!!"

Sharing the post on is own timeline, Eamonn replied: "Ruth and I deceived and lied to . One day I will tell the story. We had no issue with him being Gay, only support. What transpired took us for fools . The man told us complete lies and we unfortunately believed him."
