Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford confirm break from This Morning

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford have announced they are taking a small break from This Morning.

They shocked viewers with the news on Friday as on their latest episode, fans were stunned to learn the pair would not be on this week, reports Mirror Online.

The hosts present the show every Friday, while they take over from  Holly Willoughby  and Phillip Schofield on weekdays during half terms and school holidays.

The pair suggested they wouldn't be on hosting duties for the next couple of weeks, before returning in the summer.

Perhaps the pair are taking a little break before they replace Holly and Phil during the looming summer holidays.

The reason hasn't been revealed, and it's also not confirmed when they will be back on screen.

This Morning also hasn't revealed who will present the show in their apparent absence.

Mirror online has contacted ITV for comment.

Just as the show was ending to hand over to Loose Women, the pair casually dropped the news.

Eamonn said: "Thanks everybody for watching today. We'll do it all again for the summer in a couple of weeks time. We'll be back then."

Ruth agreed: "Yeah, have a lovely weekend."

Surprised viewers took to  Twitter  questioning if they had misheard, as others shared their upset over the news.

One fan said: "Hang on @EamonnHolmes & Ruth off for a few weeks?? Nooooooo don't leave us."

Another added: "Fridays are the only time I'll happily sit through #ThisMorning as I love @EamonnHolmes and @RuthieeL."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
