Eamonn Brophy admits St Mirren League Cup lockout frustration and hints at Euros target

St Mirren striker Eamonn Brophy admits he’s gutted he won’t be able to make his mark in the club’s upcoming League Cup semi-final.

The Buddies will take on Livingston next Sunday at Hampden, with Brophy cup-tied due to games he played for previous club Kilmarnock earlier in the competition.

The 24-year-old is instead focusing on Premiership action, with the forward likely to lead the line for his new side on Saturday when they take on St Johnstone in Perth.

The Scotland international also hopes shining for Saints can lead him back into national boss Steve Clarke’s plans ahead of Euro 2020.

He said: “It’s a blow being cup-tied, especially with the semi-final coming up.

“I played against Clyde and Dumbarton with Kilmarnock, but that’s just one of those things.

“I knew I was coming here and I’m just delighted to be here because a fresh start is exactly what I’m needing.

“I just want to play as many games as I can and I believe I can get back to international level.

"Hopefully I can do that sooner rather than later with the Euros coming up.”
