Eamon Ryan beats Catherine Martin to remain leader of the Green Party

Eamon Ryan has been re-elected as leader of the Green Party.

Returning officer Meabh Cody has confirmed that Mr Ryan has pipped Catherine Martin in the leadership contest.

Mr Ryan, who is Minister for Climate Action, Communication Networks and Transport, narrowly beat Ms Martin by 994 votes to 946.

He said: "It is a really close result - the numbers could have gone either way.

He added: "I'm committed to help this party and our country and our people through this remarkably challenging period."

The votes were counted on Thursday after ballots from 1,950 members were received by Wednesday evening's deadline.
