Ruth Langsford was missing from This Morning today, after her sister's death, leaving Eamonn to break down live on air.
Ruth usually presents the show with husband Eammon Holmes , but today she was absent, as she grieved for sister Julia.
Instead Rylan joined Eamonn on the sofa.
At the start of the show Eamonn said: "You may already be aware of the terrible bereavement Ruth is going through, she made this post on social media to inform everyone."
Eamonn then read out the statement, but started to cry halfway through, with Rylan stepping in.
Eamonn said: "Rylan has been a great comfort to Ruth and helped Ruth by stepping in today, Rylan was the first person I phoned when he heard the news."
Rylan said: "We love you Ruth and I couldn't not be here today."
Yesterday Ruth told her fans that she had lost her sister, who had died after suffering from a 'long illness'.
The This Morning star confirmed the sad news on Twitter by sharing a sweet photo of herself and Julia.
She said: "My lovely sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness.
"My heart is completely broken. She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever.
"As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. Thank you for your understanding."
Fans sent Eamonn and Ruth their well wishes on social media.
One said: "Aww, Eamonn."
Another said: " @EamonnHolmes ahh bless you #thismorning forever the professional, thinking of the lovely @RuthieeL "
And a third said: "Sorry to hear of @RuthieeL sister passing away my heart is with her and her family #ThisMorning "
