Eagles WR Britain Covey blasts narratives focused on Jalen Hurts’ demeanor and leadership

Britain Covey is tied with Boston Scott for being the smallest player on the Eagles roster, but he recently showed the most courage while defending All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Five years to the day that Joseph Santoliquito dropped a stunning piece on then-quarterback Carson Wentz and his leadership flaws, he dropped another shocking piece centered on Eagles QB Jalen Hurts for Bleeding Green Nation.

Sources within and around the team say Jalen Hurts “changed” since signing the big $255 million contract extension. His accessibility to media, fans, teammates had been limited. He became less accessible this season, according to numerous sources. In fairness to Hurts, who is very guarded to begin with, his defensive walls went up even higher with the many open hands coming at him pulling him in various directions last offseason—striking on his popularity when his brand was hot.

Days after that article was released, longtime radio personality Dan Sileo and former Eagles offensive lineman Barrett Brooks discussed a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane that said Covey had some trepidation when approaching Hurts in the locker room.

On Wednesday morning, Covey fired back at the critics of Hurts and media members putting words in his mouth.

The “quarterback takedown” is the norm for Philly media and some fans, and the pressure surrounding the $255 million QB will only increase after a catastrophic end to the season.
