Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery rises to the occasion in matchup with Bills vaunted secondary

Alshon Jeffery’s matchup with Tre’Davious White and the Buffalo secondary was a key battle to watch prior to the Eagles’ huge Sunday afternoon tilt with the Bills. White holds the reputation of being one of the NFL’s elite cornerbacks, while the Eagles have received a fair share of criticism for their inability to make plays downfield in the passing game.

On Sunday, while playing in the harsh Orchard Park conditions, the Eagles were efficient in the passing game, with Jeffery finally able to stretch the field for Carson Wentz. Jeffery finished the game with four catches, as White primarily shadowed him for the bulk of the afternoon.

Jeffery’s 64 yards led the Eagles receivers, while his 16.0 yards per catch, established the downfield presence that had been missing from Philly’s passing attack since week one when DeSean Jackson went off in the season-opening win over Washington.

Jeffery’s 38-yard snag was his longest of the season, and his performance came after a tumultuous two-week period that saw the Eagles locker room almost implode over rumors and finger-pointing.
