Eagles waive RB Wendell Smallwood

The final domino in the Eagles running back group has fallen on Saturday afternoon, as Ian Rapoport is reporting that Wendell Smallwood has been waived by the team.

His fumble against the Jets in the preseason finale spelled out his entire career with the Eagles. So much talent, yet always an untimely mistake or inability to keep the job. Over the last three seasons, Smallwood carried the ball 211 times for 850 yards and five touchdowns — the most of any Eagles running back over that time period — but 19 running backs in the NFL secured those numbers last season alone.

With the acquisition of Jordan Howard and the Eagles drafting Miles Sanders, the writing was on the wall for Smallwood, who’ll likely land on another roster.
