The Buffalo Bills have developed one of the better young cornerbacks in the NFL in third-year pro-Tre’ Davious White. Only 24-year-old, White has three interceptions through six games this season, and he’s emerged as the top playmaker and a shutdown corner for Buffalo.
White will likely spend a great deal of time on Alshon Jeffery during Sunday’s matchup, and the Eagles will have to pick their spots when testing the versatile cornerback.
With White developing into one of the top cornerbacks in football, here are three things to know about the emerging star.
White attended DB-U
White was a factor as a true freshman at LSU, playing in 13 games with 11 starts. Wearing the No. 18 because of his leadership, White was a consensus All-American as a senior in 2016 and then drafted by the Bills in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
White blankets opposing receivers
Tre’Davious White ranks as one of the most difficult cornerbacks for opposing wide receivers and quarterbacks to face on a weekly basis and through eight weeks of this season, he’s limited opposing passers to a 44.8 completion percentage while leading the league in defender passer rating at 26.6.
White continues to get better with time
White earned Rookie of the Year honors from Pro Football Focus after his debut campaign. Recently, NFL.com’s DeAngelo Hall listed White as the NFL’s third-best cornerback, comparing him to Josh Norman.
“There has been a youth movement at the cornerback position, and White has been at the center of it since coming into the league in 2017,” Hall said. “He is thriving under Sean McDermott in Buffalo as a more athletic version of Josh Norman, who had his best seasons with McDermott in Carolina.”
