Eagles’ TE Dallas Goedert lands just outside the top-10 in PFF ranking of best 2nd-year players

Dallas Goedert had a pretty solid rookie season, but like most NFL players, he’s made the biggest leap during his second year and his offseason work has paid huge dividends.

Pro Football Focus recently ranked its top-25 second-year players through week seven, and Goedert landed just outside the top-10 at No. 11.

11. TE DALLAS GOEDERT, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Goedert missed some time earlier this season with injury, and he plays more of a secondary role to an entrenched Pro Bowler in Zach Ertz, but he’s certainly made the most of his opportunities when given a chance. Interestingly enough, it’s been as a run blocker that Goedert has seen the most success this season. It may not be what he’s been known for in his young career, but Goedert’s 87.7 run-blocking grade in 2019 ranks first among all qualifying tight ends. He has paired that with a solid receiving line of 14 receptions on 21 targets for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

Goedert has established himself as one of Carson Wentz’s favorite targets over the first half of the season, already amassing two touchdowns on 22 targets — 12 of them in the last two games. Goedert’s ability to dominate as a blocker and the Eagles penchant for using the 12 personnel, means he’ll have a big second half of the season.
