Eagles star Sheed cleared for AFL clash

West Coast's Dom Sheed has been cleared to play in the Eagles' important AFL match against Brisbane. (AAP)

Star West Coast midfielder Dom Sheed has escaped suspension for an off-the-ball strike in the Eagles' AFL western derby defeat to Fremantle.

The Eagles premiership hero will be free to play in this weekend's crunch clash with Brisbane at the Gabba.

West Coast need to upset the Lions to have any chance of sneaking into the finals after a miserable run of form to end the season.

Sheed was charged with striking Fremantle's Bailey Banfield during the second quarter of Sunday's match and given a $5000 fine, which can be downgraded to $3000 if he accepts an early guilty plea.

Match review officer Michael Christian graded the incident as intentional contact, with low impact to the body.

The only other incident looked at from Sunday's three games was a striking offence against Gold Coast's Jacob Townsend.

The Suns forward was booked for striking Essendon speedster Nick Hind and can accept a $1500 fine by pleading guilty.
