Eagles re-sign DT Timmy Jernigan to 1-year deal

Howie Roseman just pulled a rabbit out of his hat, adding value and depth to the defensive line by re-signing defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan to a one-year deal. During free agency, the Eagles declined his $11 million option and $13 million salary cap hit, and instead signed Malik Jackson.

Releasing Jernigan initially freed up another $7 million in cap space for the Eagles, who signed most their own players to extensions. The Eagles had until March 13 to make that call, but the door was always open for a Jernigan return at a reduced price.

If not for a back injury, Jernigan may have never been cut in the first place. His true value was witnessed during the Eagles’ Super Bowl season, in which he was tied for sixth among league defensive tackles with a career-high nine tackles for loss in 2017. He also contributed a sack in each of the Eagles’ playoff games in 2018.
