Eagles should target Washington State DB Jalen Thompson in the Supplemental Draft

It’s the supplemental draft season in the NFL, and there are a handful of candidates who could interest the Eagles and Howie Roseman. The supplemental draft is a means by which underclassmen who’ve become ineligible for the upcoming college football season after the deadline to enter the NFL’s regular draft can enter the NFL. To be declared eligible for the supplemental draft, a player must file a petition, which is then reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

When the NFL holds the supplemental draft in July, the Eagles could and should show real interest in Washington State defensive back Jalen Thompson. Thompson can play safety and cornerback, and before losing his eligibility, was a player who could have projected in the top-50 overall for the 2020 NFL Draft before his career ended after subsequently testing positive for a banned substance.

With Malcolm Jenkins set to turn 32 in December and questions galore about his salary or a lack of an extension, Thompson could be the type of versatile defensive back in Jenkins mode, who could transition into the same role or even a slot defender, allowing Avonte Maddox to focus on cornerback.

Rodney McLeod could be entering his final season in Philadelphia and Andrew Sendejo is a backup and spot player at best.

In three seasons at Wazzou, Thompson amassed 191 tackles, started 39 straight ballgames, and was an early round draft candidate.
