Eagles should be cautious with DeSean Jackson’s broken finger considering it could take 4-6 weeks to heal

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson suffered a break to his ring finger on Tuesday during the Birds closed practice. It was initially reported that Jackson’s break was minor and that he wouldn’t miss any time. Josina Anderson of ESPN.com is reporting that Jackson’s injury normally takes about a month to heal and that he’d be fitted with a special splint to determine his pain threshold while playing.

With the Eagles being Super Bowl contenders, the question has to be asked, should team officials take a cautious approach with their veteran wide receiver? The team drafted JJ Arcega-Whiteside for moments like this and he’s shown all throughout the preseason, that he can be a factor on the outside.

The main symptoms for Jackson are pain immediately after the trauma and yet depending on the severity of the injury, he may still have some range of motion and dull pain, which could allow him to play through it. It’s still a four to six-week injury and further damage to the finger could cause Jackson and the Eagles prolonged discomfort throughout the season.
