Eagles set to let Nick Foles hit free agency, creating another option for Redskins

The Philadelphia Eagles will let Nick Foles hit free agency this offseason.

Call it an interesting development for the Washington Redskins.

Word of the news broke at the scouting combine:

In theory, Foles would be the perfect stopgap quarterback for the Redskins. They need someone to come in and help them remain competitive while they await news on Alex Smith’s future.

Yet the only problem with that idea is money. Smith’s contract is a big drain on flexibility right now and a team like the Jacksonville Jaguars is bound to overpay on the open market,

The Redskins can’t afford to get in a bidding war. But Foles’ status is something to keep in mind now that it’s clear he’ll be on the open market.
