The Eagles drafted Penn State running back Miles Sanders with the No. 53 overall pick in the draft, making him the highest running back the Eagles have selected since LeSean McCoy in 2009.
Sanders, 21, replaced Giants running back Saquon Barkley last season at Penn State and rushed for 1,274 yards and nine touchdowns. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry and comes without the mileage of other top running backs. Sanders had a 4.49-second 40-yard dash at the combine. He's the second running back drafted this season behind Raiders first-round pick Josh Jacobs.
The Eagles acquired Jordan Howard, although Howard is entering the final year of his contract. Sanders is in position to be the Eagles' running back of the future if he develops as the team hopes.
