Eagles rule DeSean Jackson OUT for matchup with Lions

Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson has ruled wide receiver DeSean Jackson (abdomen) OUT for their Week 3 matchup with the Detroit Lions.

This a big blow to the Eagles, as Jackson was labeled the missing piece to their offense and was supposed to help take it to the next level. When you look at what he did in Week 1 — eight catches on nine targets for 154 yards and two touchdowns — it looks like they were on to something.

Jackson injured his abdomen early in Week 2 and left the game before recording a single stat and the Eagles offense struggled. With him being ruled OUT, the Lions catch a big break, but their breaks may not end there.

In addition to Jackson, the Eagles had six other players miss practices on both Wednesday and Thursday this week, including wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey, tight end Dallas Goedert, kick returner Corey Clement and defensive tackle Tim Jernigan.

Early reports on Clement and Jernigan are that they will also miss this game, but Pederson is holding out hope for Jeffrey and Goedert.

If Jeffrey is unable to go — he wasn’t present at Friday’s practice — the Eagles will be without their starting two receivers, meaning the Eagles will have to rely on slot receiver Nelson Agholor and rookie JJ Arcega-Whiteside.

While Zach Ertz is the Eagles starting tight end, Goedert is their number two and their primary run blocking complement to the offensive line. He missed last game and it negatively impacted their run game. While he was at practice on Friday, he was very limited.

Stay tuned to Lions Wire for a full Eagles injury report as it is released later today.
