Eagles QB coach Press Taylor attributes Clayton Thorson’s rough night vs. Titans to nerves

Clayton Thorson had a rough outing in his NFL debut, but the Eagles quarterback coach believes it was more about being nervous, and less about the former Northwestern star being overwhelmed by the NFL.

Thorson finished with a quarterback rating of 0.0 against the Titans and his first pass — to a wide-open Donnell Pumphrey — went straight into the ground.

His second throw floated over the head of his target and went right into the hands of Titans safety JoJo Tillery. Thorson was drafted in the fifth round as a developmental quarterback, but with Sudfeld now out six weeks, it may be hard to justify using a roster spot on him and it could be practice squad or bust. It’ll be interesting to see how the Eagles utilize Thorson going forward because it’s obvious he needs more playing time.
