PHILADELPHIA _ Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz said Monday that he is "feeling good" but "kind of taking it week-by-week," as he recovers from a broken bone in his back that kept him on the sideline for the final three regular-season games in 2018 and both playoff contests.
"That's the goal," Wentz said, when asked if he would be ready for next month's OTAs. "There's really no timetable, no rush, but I feel good with the progression right now."
Wentz said the healing bone is "still getting there. Some of this stuff really takes time. But that's not really the main concern; it's just kind of how I feel. I feel pretty good."
He said he is running and throwing, as the team begins its offseason program, which consists of conditioning work at first. He declined to give specifics of his recovery.
Wentz spent last offseason rehabbing a torn ACL that had caused him to miss the only Super Bowl victory in franchise history. He has said his work alone through much of the summer kept him a bit remote from teammates, something he hoped would be different this year.
"I get it," he said, when asked about observers questioning his durability. "I'm looking forward to putting those behind me. ... It's a part of this league; it's a physical league, Things happen. Some of those things are out of my control, and I look forward to putting that behind me."
Wentz said it's "a challenge" to be sidelined for the playoffs two years in a row. "I don't feel I'm wired to be that way."
He said it was "exciting" to contemplate a long-term deal with the Eagles, something for which the team seems to be clearing salary-cap space, but he said he is leaving contract matters to his agents at Rep1 Sports.
Wentz said he thinks wideout DeSean Jackson "will bring a dynamic aspect to our offense."
He acknowledged that "obviously it's different" not having Nick Foles in the quarterback room. The QB who led the Eagles to four playoff victories and a Lombardi Trophy during the past two seasons left for Jacksonville in free agency.
