Eagles proposed altering the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving tradition

For millions of Lions fans and Michiganders, Thanksgiving is built around the team hosting the early game on the NFL slate. My own family gathers around to watch the Lions and carve into the turkey and dressing once the game is over. It’s a tradition for everyone since 1934, when the Lions became the first team to host a game on the holiday.

The Philadelphia Eagles made a foolish proposal designed to tear apart tradition and ruin families, trying to take away what is handily the most positive impression of Detroit football in the process. The Eagles wanted the Lions and Dallas Cowboys, who have hosted the late-afternoon game on Thanksgiving since the 1960s, to give up those prime spots.

Sensing their callous, homewrecking mistake, the Eagles quickly withdrew the proposal, according to Pro Football Talk. Even though it would have allowed the Lions and Cowboys to play on the road when they weren’t hosting it, that’s simply not good enough.

It’s good the Eagles came to their senses. Maybe they can have the halftime show?
