The Eagles build their roster from the inside out and it is probably the biggest reason for the sustained success despite a lack of talent at key skill positions.
Philadelphia takes pride in stockpiling offensive and defensive line depth and if two draft-eligible prospects have similar grades, the trenches will usually get the pick.
That’s why it shouldn’t have been a shocker when the Eagles went with Nebraska center Cam Jurgens at No. 51 overall, despite Nakobe Dean and other talented defenders still being on the board. On Friday night after Day, two concluded, general manager Howie Roseman gave some insight into his thought process in the second round.

Andy Weidl, the Eagles’ vice president of player personnel told the media that Jurgens does all the things that Jeff Stoutland and team brass prefer an offensive line prospect to do in a certain scheme.
Howie Roseman said the Eagles actually considered drafting Dean at No. 51, but went with Jurgens based on the philosophy of building from the inside out.
When Dean was still on the board one round later, Philadelphia’s plan fell into place.
