Eagles land in top 3 of USA TODAY’s NFL power rankings

The 2018 season is in the rearview for the Philadelphia Eagles and that sting of defeat suffered at the hands of the New Orleans Saints will serve as motivation starting on Wednesday.

USA TODAY released its training camp edition of the NFL power rankings and the Eagles are riding the offseason wave of hype, landing at No. 3.

3. Philadelphia Eagles (6): Residual championship core bolstered by guys returning from injury (QB Carson Wentz, CB Ronald Darby, DE Derek Barnett) and nifty pickups (DL Malik Jackson, WR DeSean Jackson, RBs Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders). DeSean Jackson, who averaged league-best 18.9 ypc in 2018, brings needed deep speed.

The word being thrown around most this offseason is “loaded,” referring to an Eagles roster that has some of the best skill players in the league. The New England Patriots grabbed the top spot in the power rankings, with the L.A. Chargers coming in at No. 2, surprisingly.

As for their NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys grabbed the 15th spot, followed by the Giants at No. 26 and the Redskins as the 30th-ranked team.
