Eagles' Jalen Hurts ankle surgery revealed after signing record NFL contract

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has recently had ankle surgery after his incredible season.

Hurts took a substantial step up in play during his third year in the league, after questions were being asked on whether he'd be the man to take the Eagles forward this time last year.

But the former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback answered all questions with a dominant, MVP-worthy season- scoring 35 touchdowns to just six interceptions. He was rewarded this week after signing the largest contract in NFL histor y - signing a five-year, $255 million deal. The deal seemingly came out of nowhere, with Hurts still having a year left on his rookie deal.

However, the Eagles acted quickly to lock up their quarterback - with the salary cap set to rise exponentially in 2024, with both Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert likely to ask for even more than that.

Hurts has been reasonably quiet since the Super Bowl loss, and it has now been revealed that the quarterback has undergone surgery on his right ankle.

The surgery was to remove 'hardware' that had been placed into his ankle almost five years ago, when he had been playing for Alabama.

That had been one of the last games that Hurts would play for Bama, before transferring to Oklahoma after losing his place to now-Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Hurts was taken in the second round of the NFL Draft in 2020, a maligned pick at the time with Hurts struggling as a passing quarterback. Many projected him to be a mobile quarterback with limitations, with some even comparing him to draft bust Tim Tebow.

But Hurts proved all doubters wrong last season, and will lead the Philadelphia Eagles who will once again be amongst the favourites to challenge for the Super Bowl.

The surgery took place in February and is said to be minor, with Hurts expected to be a full participant at the Eagles' off-season programme next week.
