Eagles go with a CB in Mel Kiper’s 2.0 mock draft

Prior to last months Super Bowl, ESPN’s NFL Draft guru, Mel Kiper Jr., released his first mock draft of the season, and he echoed the sentiment around the league, that the Birds would go for a top-notch pass rusher. A month later, Kiper has changed his tune, believing the Eagles will need help on the corner to circumvent the looming aerial attacks Jim Schwartz defense will come up against in 2019.

With a change in his draft narrative, Kiper now has the Eagles selecting National Champion and Clemson All American cornerback, Trayvon Mullen at No. 25.

Injuries in the secondary really hurt the Eagles in 2018, as the defense couldn’t match the play that led them to a Super Bowl LII victory. And with Ronald Darby possibly leaving in free agency, cornerback is a spot to target here or with one of their two second-round picks. Mullen had an inconsistent 2018 season, but he has some excellent 2017 tape. And at 6-foot-2, 186 pounds, he’s a big corner. He should test well in Indianapolis.

Mullen has elite size for the position and is a strong prospect, but with the Eagles secondary making a huge jump at the end of the season, the Birds have more pressing needs.
