Eagles GM willing to trade everything for Texans QB Deshaun Watson?

One day after a report surfaced suggesting the Eagles were “a strong suitor” for Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, Jeff McLane of The Inquirer has confirmed that general manager Howie Roseman has been doing his normal due diligence on a big named player that could be available.

Despite the Eagles saying all the correct things about Jalen Hurts, the team has yet to formally commit to him as the starter going forward.

According to McLane, the Eagles have in fact inquired about trading for Watson in some form or fashion.

“Howie will give up everything he has for Watson,” an NFL source familiar with the Eagles’ thinking said.

McLane’s report is consistent with what every general manager around the league has done for months, and that’s monitor Watson’s availability from afar.

The first option appears unlikely after Roseman passed on free agents who would have fallen under a “competition/backup” category. The second is a long shot, even if two independent NFL sources confirmed a CBS Sports report that the Eagles recently inquired about trading for Watson.

The 26-year-old former Clemson star is coming off a career year in 2020 from a statistics standpoint, making his third straight Pro Bowl while throwing for 33 TDs to seven interceptions, and averaging 8.9 yards per attempt.

Watson also completed almost 71% of his passes in 2020.

Things are now even more complicated on that front, as Watson is currently dealing with what is allegedly 3 civil lawsuits in which he’s accused of sexual assault, with more suits reportedly on the way.

Watson has vehemently denied those allegations.
