Eagles GM on ‘not hesitating’ to give Carson Wentz extension if the deal was right

Carson Wentz will eventually sign a record-setting contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles, but it’s a matter of when, not if and according to Howie Roseman, it could happen soon. The Eagles GM was a guest on 94WIP on Tuesday and addressed the elephant in the room, which is Wentz looming deal.

Roseman could wait a season or two, but the Eagles top executive sounds like a guy who’d prefer to get a deal done now, and “won’t hesitate” if the money is right.

If the deal is right could be lingo for a lot of scenario’s, including one in which Roseman and the Eagles would prefer Wentz signing a team friendly deal. Wentz is heading into the final season of his rookie deal, and with the Eagles picking up his fifth-year option at $23 million, he’ll be on the roster in 2020, extension or not.

With fellow quarterback class of 2016 member, Dak Prescott likely to be extended by the Cowboys soon and Patrick Mahomes new deal on the horizon, the market for Wentz’s long-term deal could come into focus soon and at a number that could make Roseman uncomfortable. Still, Roseman made it clear that Wentz is the teams future at quarterback and he’ll be around for the long haul.

Since being drafted at No. 2 overall in 2016, Wentz has been one of the NFL’s top signal callers, and even after missing five games with a back injury or recovery from his ACL tear, Carson still passed for 3,072 yards, 21 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a career-best 69.6 completion percentage.
