The Philadelphia Eagles struggled mightily to prevent the big play last Sunday in their shocking blowout loss to the Minnesota Vikings on the road. The Eagles’ struggles aren’t indicative of an overall defensive issue, as the Birds are normally efficient at getting the opposing offense off the field.
According to Inside Edge, Philadelphia is one of the top five teams in the NFL at forcing their opponents to go three and out on a possession.
Philadelphia landed behind the Patriots, Titans, 49ers, and Bills for the highest percentage of three and outs forced with 26.1% of their opponent’s possessions ending in a punt after three plays. The Eagles defense does a good job of getting off the field, but they need to get better at preventing the big play.
