Eagles DE Derek Barnett fined for block on Jets LT Alex Lewis during INT return

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Derek Barnett has been fined again for another hit that the NFL has deemed unnecessary according to Tom Pelissero. Barnett was fined $10,527 for an unnecessary roughness penalty against Jets left tackle Alex Lewis’ legs during an interception return.

Barnett had previously been fined $28,075 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Jamaal Williams during Philadelphia’s Week 4 win over the Green Bay Packers.

Williams suffered a concussion and had to be stretchered off the field after Barnett’s late hit on a running play that was blown dead.

The Eagles are working to avoid the stigma of Barnett possibly being a dirty player after the physical defensive end picked up his third personal foul on the season with that play against Lewis last Sunday.
