Eagles’ DC Jim Schwartz on whether Rasul Douglas could see time at safety

Rasul Douglas has had a great training camp and is a guy deserving of making the Eagles roster. With Douglas being so versatile as a big cornerback, the question has been asked to defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, about Rasul possibly playing some safety this season?

During his Tuesday training camp press conference, Schwartz shot down any idea of Douglas playing safety this year, calling last season an “all hands on deck” situation via CBS 3.

“All our guys need to be multi-dimensional. He’s not going to take any safety reps in training camp, and he only did last year because it was an all-hands-on-deck emergency-type situation where he had to go in and play safety. He has played a little bit of nickel, which is something he hasn’t done in the past. But, when [Cre’Von LeBlanc] got hurt, our nickel numbers went down and he stepped in.”

Douglas has gotten much stronger since last season and his presence is needed in a secondary that at times lacks the proper physicality. it wouldn’t be shocking if the New Jersey native ended up being the last cornerback standing.
