Eagles DC Jim Schwartz on Zach Brown’s release: We need more production from LBs

Eagles brass sent a loud message to the entire team on Monday with the news that talented but inconsistent linebacker Zach Brown was being released. Brown made headlines last week when he deemed Kirk Cousins as the “Vikings weakest link” in advance of the huge matchup in Minneapolis this past Sunday.

Cousins was the Viking’s biggest strength on Sunday, shredding the Eagles for over 400 yards and four touchdowns. After the game, a humbled Zach Brown refused to answer any questions about Cousins’s performance.

By Monday, Brown was gone, released by the team.

When asked about his former linebacker on Tuesday, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz referred all questions about personnel moves to his bosses, making it clear that the Eagles “need more production” from the linebacker group.

When asked about the lack of sacks, Schwartz placed blame on the secondary for not covering long enough for his edger rushers to produce results.
