Eagles create $5.7M in salary cap space by restructuring Fletcher Cox’s deal

The Philadelphia Eagles are facing some serious salary cap challenges for the looming 2021 NFL offseason and Howie Roseman will have some tough personnel decisions to make in the near future.

Roseman got a little help from Fletcher Cox on Wednesday when the star defensive tackle had
$7.165 million of his 2020 salary converted into a bonus, creating about $5.732M in cap space Field Yates is reporting.

Per Over The Cap, Cox had a base salary of $11,200,000, with a prorated signing bonus of $11,647,000. 2020 is the final season in which Cox will have guaranteed money available and the restructure won’t be the last time Howie Roseman and the Eagles star defensive tackle talk numbers heading into 2021.

The extra salary cap space could be rolled-over into 2021 when the league could see reduced numbers in the salary cap due to lost revenue from the COVID-19 pandemic.
