Eagles cornerback depth chart gets big boost with return of Ronald Darby

The Philadelphia Eagles made another strong move in free agency on Friday, re-signing one of their own, as the team brought back Ronald Darby on a one-year deal. Darby now has the chance to set himself up for a bigger payday in 2020 if he proves he’s healthy, after suffering serious injuries over the past two seasons.

With Darby back in the fold, the Philadelphia Eagles have one of the youngest and more talented cornerback depth charts in all of football. In 2018, injuries ravaged the Eagles, no more than at the cornerback position, where things got so bad, that a player claimed off of waivers Cre’Von LeBlanc, wound up in a starting role. Now the Eagles could have too much depth, a problem team all around the league would pay to have.

In Avonte Maddox, Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, and Jalen Mills the Eagles now have four cornerbacks, aged 24 or younger, all with 10 or more starts under their belts. Add in Cre’Von LeBlanc and Rasul Douglas, and you have a recipe for a talented and stingy secondary, that was forced to learn on the job in 2018. The scars of last season could be a precursor for the Eagles secondary being the leading force on a dominant defense in 2019.
