Eagles coach Nick Sirianni says Kenneth Gainwell is still RB2 ahead of Cowboys matchup

D’Andre Swift is flourishing in his role as the Eagles lead running back, and he remains among the top five in rushing despite some huge passing performances from quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Swift’s hot hand has reduced Kenneth Gainwell to a limited roll, and he’s come under fire for his poor perfroamcnes in games, and responding to fans via social media during halftime of a game.

While addressing the media on Wednesday, head coach Nick Sirianni made it clear that Gainwell would remain the backup running back while giving insight into things the media and fans might miss.

“There’s things that you don’t see when we’re in practice, and obviously he’s our RB2 because he’s the 2nd best running back on our team Sirianni said. That’s based on games, that’s based on past games, that’s based on practice, that’s based on the whole body of work. I didn’t get this question when he ran over 2 guys in the Miami game to get into the end zone last week, or when he played great in the playoffs last season.”

Gainwell has 51 carries, for 153 yard (3 YPC) and one touchdown through nine weeks, and PFF has the former Memphis star as the 39th highest graded running back in the NFL.

Sirianni was answering the questions after some in the media suggested that Boston Scott should be the No. 2 running back on the roster.
