Eagles are all-in on Carson Wentz in 2019 and beyond

The Philadelphia Eagles and their Executive Vice President of Football Operations Howie Roseman have made one thing clear this offseason: they may be all-in in this season, but they are really all-in on quarterback Carson Wentz for the long-run as well.

Roseman has made it no secret that the Eagles want to get a long-term extension done with Wentz. On multiple occasions, he has mentioned getting the right deal for Wentz and the Eagles. Words are words though, and actions speak louder, and Roseman’s actions are screaming in support of Wentz.

So far this offseason, the Eagles have traded for DeSean Jackson and Jordan Howard. The future Hall of Famer, Jackson, gives Wentz the deep-threat he needed. Howard gave the Eagles the best 11 personnel in football and even though he has one year left on his contract, he gives Wentz a running back to pick up short yardage in 2019. Along with the weapons on offense the Eagles added, they also added a bunch of pieces on defense. Former Washington Redskins linebacker Zach Brown and former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Malik Jackson highlight those additions.

Not only has Roseman built a masterpiece roster for 2019, but he has also made moves that will ensure the team’s main priority, Carson Wentz has the best chance to succeed in the coming years. Taking Andre Dillard with their first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft was the loudest move by the Eagles to show support for Wentz long-term. Philadelphia already has their starting tackles in 2019, Lane Johnson and future Hall of Fame left tackle, Jason Peters. However, this will surely be Peters’ last year, so the Eagles made sure they already have Wentz’s blindside protected after Peters’ retirement party.

It didn’t stop in the first round; the Eagles then drafted former Penn State running back Miles Sanders in the second round and former Stanford wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside as well. In my opinion, Sanders was the best running back in the draft, and adding him gives the Eagles a running back that Wentz can trust for years to come. The Eagles are spending big at wide receiver this season, which is the right move, but they decided to add another receiver, Arcega-Whiteside. The former Stanford product is a red zone monster and ensures that Wentz will have a receiver to go with Sanders.

So, with their first three picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Eagles added a left tackle, a running back, and a wide receiver, all three positions that were not holes on the roster for 2019. Good teams draft for the future, but it is clear that the Eagles did this because they want to make sure they have pieces in place for Wentz down the road as well.

There is no doubt that Roseman is ready to win in 2019, but it is also clear that Roseman and the Eagles are all-in on Wentz this season and beyond.
