Eagles and Texans could have mutual interest in a trade if Lamar Miller’s injury is serious

The Eagles and Texans have been the subject of trade speculation for the past few days because of Houston’s inability to get Jadeveon Clowney signed. The Texans have been gutted by injuries to their offensive line and on Saturday, starting running back, Lamar Miller was carted off with a knee injury.

Without Miller, Houston’s RB depth chart includes newly acquired Duke Johnson, Buddy Howell, Damarea Crockett, Josh Ferguson, Cullen Gillaspia, Taiwan Jones and Karan Higdon. The Eagles are loaded at running back with a depth chart that includes Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders, Darren Sproles, Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood, Josh Adams, Boston Scott, and Donnel Pumphrey.

Howard and Sanders are likely untouchables, while Clement is coming off an ACL injury but looks to have regained his shiftiness and explosiveness. Wendell Smallwood and Scott are decent and could be used as assets in a trade that could land the Eagles Jadeveon Clowney for the right price.

This comes on the heels of NFL Insider Michael Lombardi telling VSIN Live that two teams are currently talking to Clowney about signing his franchise tag with the Texans, which would allow him to then accept a trade to another team, similar to what the Raiders did with Khalil Mack last summer.

Clowney could come to the Eagles without the pressure of having to register a sack on every down.

With Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett, Josh Sweat and Daeshon Hall on the outside, along with Fletcher Cox, Clowney wouldn’t be asked to play every down and his sole focus could strictly be rushing the passer and accumulating sacks.

Smallwood or Clement, along with right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai and a draft pick could be the ingredients for a trade that could land the Eagles one of the top pass rushers in the NFL to combine with the wealth of talent already on the defensive line.
