Thanks to a special shopping hack, Tesco customers can now track how long their favourite foods will be discounted for.
There’s a secret code that appears beneath the offer on the supermarket’s yellow label - and it apparently reveals the date the deal ends.
The simple trick means shoppers just have to check the label closely to save cash, reports the Mirror.
To find out when the deal ends, look for the six digit code that appears at the bottom of the label.
This will tell you the end date in reverse order i.e the first two digits signify the year, the next two tells you the month and the final two are the day.
For example, if the code is 190731, the end date is July 31 2019.
The trick was spotted by Ricky Willis, who runs Skint Dad and Skint Chef blogs, and has been confirmed by Tesco to the ECHO as legitimate.
Ricky was able to confirm his theory by checking if the digits on the labels in store matched those on the Tesco website.
He wrote in his blog: “I won’t always buy the basic, cheaper brand, as I look out to mix up promos on higher-priced foods and look at cashback apps to make things better value.
“Because of this, I always have an open eye. When I’m in the supermarket, I check prices like a hawk.”
“You can use this to determine if you need to buy your favourite groceries sharpish and potentially bulk, or if you’ve got more time to buy the food over a longer time, saving you potentially wasting food.”
Tesco confirmed the codes are aimed at staff and can change unexpectedly.
