EA Walks Away, But 2K Moves Forward With College Basketball Experience

The week began with uncertainty about where college basketball gaming was headed, but earlier today EA made it official that it would not be bringing its series back. By the end of the day though, 2K stepped in with their own news.

2K shared that they are developing a college basketball experience that will include more than 100 programs, covering everything from powerhouse schools to unexpected Cinderella stories. The studio emphasized that competition drives quality at every level and their approach is designed to benefit partner schools, college athletes and players alike.

Fans also won’t have to wait long before seeing colleges make their way into the game, with plans set for 2027 and some surprises arriving as early as 2026. According to Extra Points, 2K had proposed a non-exclusive license to add a college basketball tournament mode as downloadable content in NBA 2K’s MyTeam. A standalone game could be explored later, depending on how the DLC performed.
