EA Sports Cup Round-Up: Dundalk's Dean Jarvis knocks out St Pat's

A towering Dean Jarvis header booked Dundalk’s place in the quarter-finals of the EA Sports Cup as they inflicted a fourth successive defeat on St Pat’s Athletic with a 2-1 victory at Richmond Park.

A second string Dundalk took just five minute to punish a defensive error for the lead as Georgie Kelly ran through to score via the legs of goalkeeper Barry Murphy.

St Pat’s levelled on 13 minutes, James Doona’s speculative shot deflecting off defender Dylan Hand inside Aaron McCarey’s near post.

But further poor Pat’s defending on 34 minutes allowed Jarvis to head in a Jordan Flores floated corner for what proved to be the winner.

In the shock of the night, Bray Wanderers beat Premier Division leaders Shamrock Rovers 4-2 on penalties after their tie at the Carlisle Grounds finished scoreless.

Brandon Kavanagh and Aaron Greene failed to score from the spot for Rovers. Luka Lovic, Richie Purdy, Dylan McGlade and Dylan Barnett made no mistake for First Division table-toppers Bray.

Cork City proved far too strong for last year’s beaten finalists Cobh Ramblers, beating the First Division side 4-1 at Turner’s Cross.

James Tilley rifled in the opener before Liam Nash and Gary Comerford scored after the break. Denzil Fernandes got a consolation goal 13 minutes from time before Darragh Crowley added Cork’s fourth.

Bohemians came from behind to beat second tier Cabinteely 2-1 at Dalymount Park.

In-form Cabo took the lead on 34 minutes as Sean Bohan flapped at James Woods’ corner to gift Luke Clucas a simple header to the net but a cool headed finish by Ryan Graydon had Bohs level on 56 minutes.

Sam Byrne’s 77th minute penalty won it for the Phibsborough side.

Cory Galvin’s 25-yard strike gave Waterford United a 2-1 win at the RSC over Galway United.

Jeff McGowan had cancelled out Dean Walsh’s opener for the hosts.

A goal five minutes into extra-time from Stephen Doherty gave Finn Harps a 2-1 victory over Sligo Rovers in Ballybofey.

Mark Coyle thought he’d won it for Harps on 87 minutes to break the deadlock but Sligo hit back right on 90 minutes through Dante Leverock.
