EA Made a Huge Mistake Skipping PC for College Football 26

The hype train for College Football 26 has officially left the station and is full steam ahead toward releasing on July 10, 2025. And that hype isn’t unearned or even surprising. The game’s predecessor, College Football 25, was a massive success, becoming the most sold sports game in the United States last year, as well as the second-most sold game of the year, regardless of genre. Even though EA has faced criticism for its other sports game offerings, College Football 25 seemed to be a breath of fresh air, boasted some really good mechanics, and revived a beloved series that was dormant for over a decade.

In the lead-up to the release of College Football 26, EA has shown off a plethora of tweaks it has made to the already-popular formula set by its predecessor, be it refinements to its Road to Glory mode or Ultimate Team. And it seems that most of these changes have been seen as improvements by the community. But there remains one big blemish — there is no PC version coming out. Instead, College Football 26 will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms.

And this is a huge mistake.

No College Football 26 On PC Is A Major Missed Opportunity

The PC has always been one of the more popular mediums for gamers. And it has grown way more than its console competitors over the years. According to Exploding Topics, PC gaming has grown from 1.1 billion users in 2008 to 1.86 billion users as of 2024. A lot of this growth is in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, a time in which PC gaming experienced its biggest boon, increasing by 12.9% from 2019. And it’s not hard to figure out why.

Unlike console gaming, PC grants its users access to each game’s files, allowing them more options when it comes to mods and things of that nature. In fact, modifying games is such a fixture of PC gaming that most developers and publishers will provide tools and support for gamers who wish to change features to refresh their experience.

And this is something that College Football 26 could greatly benefit from. Because even if the game is good at its core, it’s almost impossible for a yearly sports title to keep up with everything that’s going on in the real-life sport on a week-to-week basis.

For The Love Of Mods

When it came to CFB 25, we here at Operation Sports provided a ton of tutorials and ways for players to better their experience, such as accurate conference alignment and some settings sliders to ensure that the game played as realistically as possible. Now imagine users being able to do that with the click of a few buttons and the insertion of one or two files? It would be a massive game-changer and all but ensure that CFB 26 would have one of, if not the, best sports game communities in the world.

Sure, you can make this argument for virtually any game that isn’t on PC. But it’s especially true with CFB 26 because of how dedicated and ardent its player base is. Of course, it’s simply a matter of when the series will appear on the PC platform, not if. But we can still pine for it until it eventually arrives.
