EA Lays Off 'Battlefield' Staff Despite Successful Game Release in 2025—But Why?

Electronic Arts has axed employees under the game development studios responsible for the "Battlefield" games as part of its restructuring and future developments.

The layoffs happened despite the massive successes within the "Battlefield" franchise.

EA Lays Off 'Battlefield' Staff Across Studios

First reported by IGN, EA has laid off an undisclosed number of staff members, employees, and developers under the studios that develop the "Battlefield" franchise. This includes studios like Criterion, DICE, Motive Studios, and Ripple Effect.

An EA spokesperson said in a statement that the company's decision centers on a "realignment" for the studios behind "Battlefield," but the spokesperson did not disclose the number of employees affected by the company's decision.

That said, IGN mentioned in its report that these studios will remain operational after the layoffs take effect, but it will affect multiple offices moving forward.

Layoffs Despite 'Battlefield' Success—Why?

The layoffs came after a successful performance of these studios last year, particularly in their work towards "Battlefield 6's" development, which saw immense popularity in its release.

"Battlefield 6" saw as many as seven million copies sold in its first three days of release, and it also saw a strong performance throughout the rest of the year. At one point, Engadget reported that EA called "Battlefield 6" the "best-selling shooter title of 2025."

It was also added by Engadget that the "Battlefield" franchise is not the only game under EA that has faced layoffs as "Skate's" Full Circle also axed staff last month.
