EA Sports has announced an update to the entry requirements for the Season 2 World Tour Cup in EA FC 26, tweaking how players build their squads for the event. According to EA Sports FC Direct on X (formerly known as Twitter), the restriction has changed from allowing a maximum of one player with an 85 OVR or higher to now allowing up to two players rated 86 OVR or higher. Another rule is that no players rated 89 OVR or higher can be included.
A Simple But Effective Change
For those unfamiliar, the World Tour Cup is a rotating online event in Ultimate Team that asks you to build squads for a themed, limited-time event. It’s structured as a knockout-style challenge that resets daily, rewarding you with packs, coins, and XP based on performance. Much like today’s update, entry rules often rotate for the event.
The rationality behind the latest rule change is likely to further tighten competitive balance and prevent “meta” squads from dominating. Capping the number of elite players and setting an upper OVR limit might encourage more creative team-building and skill-based play.
Of course, like every other change EA makes to the game, this one has also sparked mixed reactions among the community. Theoretically, this change levels the playing field, but some argue it makes matchmaking more predictable as it allows for meta 86+ cards. A bigger issue is that you’re locked out of the event after winning the tournament until the following day. Some say it feels like you get punished for being good.
More importantly, others believe that EA should be focusing more on the immediately pressing issues. PC players have been having a rough time with the game since launch, and there are already reports of players getting kicked out of World Tour matches or not getting their rightful rewards.
