Although the goal is the ultimate representation of football, the pass is where the soul of the sport truly lies. To keep that essence intact, EA FC 26 allows players to apply a wide array of techniques to passes, going from the caffeine-infused driven pass to the famous backheel.
So you can have a ground course on how to perform them and learn the best ways to use each of your new tools, here are all of the passing techniques in EA FC 26, explained.

All Basic And Standard Ground Passes In EA FC 26
To start, we will consider the standard variants of all main passes and techniques as basic ones, given both their utility and difficulty. Among them, though, the Pass And Go (more commonly known as the one-two pass) is a highlight.
Why? It sees the passer make a run after getting rid of the ball for a quick Tiki Taka. You can check out how to perform each of the game’s basic passes below, no matter your platform (or controller) of choice:
Pass | Overview | How To Perform (PlayStation) | How To Perform (Xbox) |
---|---|---|---|
Basic Pass | A standard ground pass aimed toward either the closest teammate or a desired direction. Perfect for any situation. | Press X (Hold to increase strength) | Press A (Hold to increase strength) |
Through Pass | A pass aimed toward a future point and made to allow receivers to tap it while mid-run. The ideal pass to break apart defenses and reach players behind lines. | Press △ (Hold to increase strength) | Press Y (Hold to increase strength) |
Lob Pass / Cross | A high pass made to go above the opposition or target a teammate during corners/crossing attempts. | Press ▢ (Hold to increase strength) | Press B (Hold to increase strength) |
High Lob Pass | An even sharper version of the above. Keeps the ball in the air for longer and gives the receiver more time to prepare. Perfect for setting up bicycle kicks. | L1 + ▢ (Hold to increase strength) | LB + B (Hold to increase strength) |
Ground Cross | A cross (the name given to diagonal passes made from the flanks) that stays close to the grass and sways, great for within the box assists. | Double Tap ▢ | Double tap X |
Pass And Go (One-Two) | The famous one-two, made by performing the pass before making a run forward. It can be lethal if paired with a through ball by the receiver. | L1 + X | LB + A |
Pass And Move | A pass that sees your player move after getting rid of the ball. Great for creating space, but highly situational. | X/△/▢ + Hold the right analog stick toward any direction | A/Y/B + Hold the right analog stick toward any direction |
Lofted And Driven Passes In EA FC 26
Adding an extra punch to the above, a driven pass sees your player send the ball way faster toward the receiver, at the risk of making it more difficult to control and losing accuracy (when not paired with either the Pinged or Incisive Pass PlayStyles). As you can see below, Lofted passes then send the ball at medium height, thus allowing you to bypass defenders even in tight spaces.
Pass | Overview | How To Perform (PlayStation) | How To Perform (Xbox) |
---|---|---|---|
Driven Ground Pass | A grounded pass that carries more power. Harder on the receiver but great for getting the ball out fast when under pressure. | R1 + X | RB + A |
Lofted Ground Pass | A medium height regular pass, perfect for avoiding defenders. | Double-tap X | Double-tap A |
Driven Lob Pass / Driven Cross | A faster lobbed pass carrying less autitude, perfect for short crosses within the box. | L1 + R1 + ▢ | LB + RB + X |
Drvien Ground Cross | A medium height cross. | L1 + R1 + Double-tap ▢ | LB + RB + Double-tap X |
Driven Pass And Go | A faster version of the standard play. Perfect for those looking to kick into 5th gear after a relay, Lionel Messi style. | L1 + R1 + X | LB + RB + A |
All Advanced Through Passes
We believe lofted and lobbed through passes deserve a section of their own, as they allow you to thread a needle between defenders, bypass well-posted opponents, and, in the case of the latter, connect to goal-scoring runs from anywhere on the pitch. Here’s an overview of both passes and how to perform them:
Pass | Overview | How To Perform (PlayStation) | How To Perform (Xbox) |
---|---|---|---|
Lofted Through Pass | A medium-high through ball. The perfect pick for CAMs looking to find strikers behind lines or in short spaces. | Double tap △ | Double tap Y |
Lobbed Through Pass | A lob pass to a future point, made to go over defenses and reach mid-run players on the final portion of the pitch. The ideal pick when looking to go full Trent Alexander-Arnold. | L1 + △ | LB + Y |
About Precision Passes
Demanding both execution and game knowledge, precision passes allow you to manually select where you want the ball to end up following through and lobs. As you can imagine, this allows players to use them to perform pitch-wide assists and abuse blind spots within the field. Here’s how to perform all types of precision passes in EA FC 26:
Pass | Overview | How To Perform (PlayStation) | How To Perform (Xbox) |
---|---|---|---|
Precision Pass | A manual though pass, great for finding space and picking the right angles. | L1 + △ + direction | LB + Y |
Precision Swerve Ground Pass | A pass that bends toward the receiver. Perfect for avoiding defenders. | L2 + R1 + △ + direction | LT + RB + Y |
Precision Lob Pass | A manual lob pass. | R1 + ▢ + direction | RB + B |
All Flair Passes & When To Perform Them
Made by holding or pressing the left trigger while performing the regular inputs, flair passes are ideal for those who prefer to be a little more inventive. They can also become trivelas if performed by players with the Inventive PlayStyle. But don’t worry if you don’t have the latter, as any flair pass featuring more than 2 bars can still swerve toward the receiver.
Pass | Overview | How To Perform (PlayStation) | How To Perform (Xbox) |
---|---|---|---|
Flair Pass / Swerve | An inventive pass ideal for all looking to use their heels and more to get the ball across. Tiki Taka at its finest. | L2 + X | LT + A |
Flair Lob / Cross | A lob pass featuring a higher angle. | L2 + ▢ | LT + B |
Flair Through / Swerve | A through version of the regular flair pass. Allows you to kickstart or respond to runs from any direction. | L2 + △ | LT + Y |
Fake Passes And Player Locking
Given their utility, it would be a disservice not to include how to perform fake passes here, which sees you trick opponents into reacting to a ball that never comes. The same can be said about player locking, a command that allows you to take control of an off-the-ball player while still commanding your team’s on-the-ball action. You can check out how to perform both below:
- Fake Pass: ▢ + X / B + A while holding R3/RS toward any direction
- Player Lock: Press R3 + L3 / RS + LS while with the ball (Must be enabled first by heading to Settings). Upon performing it, flick the right analog stick in any direction to change your controlled player and perform any pass to send the ball to them.
